The ENGT Outstanding Staff Award was created to recognize and honor the outstanding achievements of a full time staff member in the School of Engineering and Technology (PA, CL, or TE).  The recipient will receive the award at the Spring Honors Convocation.

Eligibility

Staff member must hold a Full time position as a CL, TE or PA within the School of Engineering and Technology. Staff member must have a minimum of two years of full time service in the School of Engineering and Technology at the time of nomination.

Criteria

Outstanding Achievement on the Job - actions that constitute performance beyond expected standards, examples may include the following:

  • Producing high quality of work over an extended period of time
  • Producing high quantity of work over an extended period of time
  • Giving extra effort to complete a job or handle a heavier workload
  • Filling in when unit is short-staffed
  • Volunteering for and working on special projects
  • Serving on a committee and contributing to its success

Exceptional Contributions towards the Effectiveness and Efficiency of Operations - actions that contribute to the maximum utilization of departmental resources, examples may include the following:

  • Integrating information or equipment for more efficient/effective use
  • Developing new work methods that reduce waste or stretch resources
  • Eliminating unnecessary actions or steps for delivering service
  • Making creative suggestions that save time/money

Outstanding Service to Other Employees, Students or Other Campus Visitors - actions that are especially helpful or make a good impression on others, examples may include the following:

  • Promotes positive morale by displaying a congenial, supportive attitude and Provides service to others
  • Doing things for others that are beyond job requirements
  • Performing in an exceptionally courteous and cooperative manner
  • Being so helpful that others write letters of appreciation
Nomination Process

Who Can Nominate:   Any administrator, faculty or staff member in the School of Engineering and Technology may make Nominations for the Outstanding Staff Award using the nomination forms.  Forms are available in the Dean’s office with Administration and Finance and on the G:drive in the Common folder under forms.

Deadline:  Nomination packets must be submitted by the second Friday in February, 5:00 p.m. to Selection Committee Chair.

Nomination Packet:   Submission must include nomination form and a required minimum of two (2) letters of support. Packet must be complete (nomination form and letters of support) prior to submitting.

Nomination Form:  Nominator must complete the nomination form and address at least two of the three criteria in their narrative statement.

Letters of Support:  In addition to the nomination form, nominators must attach the minimum two but no more than four letters of support for the nominee.  Letters may be obtained from various sources including, but not limited to the following: 

  • Faculty, staff and students of the School
  • Other faculty or staff on the IUPUI campus
  • Members of committees in which the nominee is an active participant
  • Vendors and clients of the School

Selection Committee:  The staff awards committee will select a name of one staff person (CL, PA or TE) at random to serve as the selection committee chair. The staff awards committee will randomly select two faculty representatives from Engineering and two faculty representatives from Technology to serve as members of the selection committee. In addition, two CL/TE’s and two PA’s will be selected, at random, to serve on the committee.If any of the staff members on the selection committee are nominated for an award, the staff awards committee will select another name, at random, to replace the nominee. Staff members receiving nominations will not be allowed to serve on the selection committee.

Selection Process:  Each member of the committee will review and rank the nomination packets, prior to attending the staff award committee meeting. The committee will review the scores and recommend a winner. The Dean will review the final selection.
