"Pay for Print" Printing Overview:

Steps:

  1. A person prints to a ¡§Spool¡¨ that is shared on print server.
  2. The Spool holds the print job for 24 hours. If a print job is not printed within 24 hours, the job is deleted by the print server.
  3. When person is ready to print their print outs, they go to a release station PC. At the release station, the person then signs in with a valid ADS account, swipes their JagTag for funds, and then selects which print jobs to print. The release station will give the amount remaining on the person¡¦s JagTag and the cost to print all the jobs they selected. When the person presses print, it then sends the print job to the ¡§real¡¨ printer queue. This doesn¡¦t explain the ¡§card services¡¨ portion of printing ¡V just the part that is important to us. Please NOTE: the release station PC has no printers on it and the release station serves only as a client to the Pharos software on the print server.
  4. Printer Server then sends the print jobs to the destination printer.
  5. Person picks up printed jobs from the printer.

Common issues:

  1. Printing to the wrong print device. Students will not be able to print to the ¡§LowerLevelPtr##¡¨ printers any more. These have been restricted to faculty and staff use only. Several students have continued to try to print to these printers. When printing by students, the print job is created but deleted immediately from the print queue by the print server. Have the student open the print monitor for that queue ¡V if there are no other jobs in the queue, then they have the wrong printer queue. The correct print queue will have 6 or more print jobs waiting to be printed from other students.
  2. Striping the JagTag the wrong way on the card reader. The JagTag should be swiped on the reader with the magnetic strip facing the green LED light. If you get a ¡§Diebold Error¡¨ of any type, the card was run backwards in the card reader. If nothing happens, the card was swiped with the magnetic stripe facing away from the green LED.
  3. Print jobs charged and appearing to print, but nothing prints out. The printer is either turned off or is not being provided power. CNC will reprint the print job at no cost to the student.
  4. 24 hours after printing to the print server, the print job can not be found. Print jobs are deleted automatically 24 hours after being created on the print server. Print jobs need to be printed before the 24 hours elapse.
